There is a moment, usually three episodes into a new season, when you want to talk to somebody about it. Not post into the void — talk to somebody.
Anime fandom has never had more people in it and never felt more scattered. The big communities are enormous and anonymous. The good ones are private and invisible. And if you make things — art, edits, original characters, AMVs — the places with the most people are the places that care least about what you made.
What anime fans are actually looking for
- Somewhere to react while a season airs, with people watching the same week
- Discussion that survives the episode — not a thread that dies by Thursday
- A place for fan work where it is the point rather than tolerated
- Original characters taken seriously, not buried under "no OCs" rules
- Spoiler handling that understands manga readers are ahead
- People, not scale. Forty people who show up beats forty thousand who do not
Where everyone is
Seasonal discussion threads, enormous subreddits, genuinely good conversation during a big season.
The catch: identity. You are a username. Fan work is mostly unwelcome, and nothing you post accumulates into anything.
Discord
Where close anime communities actually live — watch-alongs, live reactions, friends.
The catch: nobody can find it. Servers grow by invite links passed between people who already know each other, which is why most plateau at the same forty members.
Twitter and Instagram
Where anime art travels. Still the fastest way for a good piece to be seen.
The catch: you are competing with everything, forever. A piece that took three weeks gets the same six seconds as a meme.
MyAnimeList and AniList
The best trackers, and useful for finding what to watch next.
The catch: more database than community.
The anime network we are building
Demi Gods Universe is a community app built for fandom — and anime fans are one of the groups it exists for. The anime side is being built now, in the open, with the people arriving.
Communities people can actually find
A community in DGU is an alliance: your group, its own name, its own picture, and a private hall only members read. The difference from a Discord server is that alliances are visible in the Universe — anyone browsing can see yours and ask to join. Nobody gets in until a member says yes, so the door is real, but the room is findable.
A seasonal watch group, a studio appreciation community, a genre you cannot find anywhere else — discoverable by the people who want exactly that.
Your profile is a character
Claim a name nobody else on the network can ever take. Write an origin, choose an alignment — the Sworn, the Neutral, or the Fallen — and build powers on a 100-point budget where the strong ones cost and every weakness gives points back.
If you have ever built an OC inspired by a series you love, this is somewhere it belongs rather than somewhere it is tolerated.
And if you only want to watch, discuss and post art: that is a complete way to use it. The character is there when you want it.
What you make decides your standing
Everyone starts at Power 10 and rises through Spark, Awakened, Champion, Titan and Ascendant.
- Power cannot be bought. There is no price for a rank
- Followers do not generate it
- Posting the same thing a thousand times earns nothing
Your profile shows which achievement gave you every point. Most platforms rank by attention. This one ranks by what you built.
Honest about scale
We launched recently. Reddit's anime community is larger by a very long way. What is different here is that your work is seen by the same people repeatedly, your community can be found by strangers who would love it, and your standing is not something anyone can purchase.
What is coming
- Voice and video in alliance halls — watch-alongs with your group, live
- A marketplace for selling art, prints and commissions. Money buys goods, never rank
- Challenges — art prompts and character duels with real stakes
- Android, in review with Google now
Starting an anime community here
- Claim your name — permanent, and nobody else can ever take it
- Start an alliance for the season, the studio or the genre
- Bring the people who post, not the people who lurk
- Give it a weekly rhythm — an episode thread, a Friday art prompt
